Projects

Projects and collaborations of WRAFT members, academic partners, and others to find the answers and resources our communities need to address environmental contamination and its effects.

Westfield Battery Storage - Streamfield Energy Storage Project - Intervenor

WRAFT, along with 27 Westfield residents and represented by Dennis Murphy of Hill Law, successfully petitioned for Intervenor status in the Westfield ESS, LLC / Jupiter Power petition, which is currently before the Energy Facilities Siting Board (EFSB), for exemption from Westfield's zoning ordinances and permission to run cables under Medeiros Way in Westfield, Massachusetts. Westfield PFAS Community Health Survey

WRAFT members, with technical assistance from Dr. Courtney Carignan from Michigan State University, will conduct a community health survey to identify potential PFAS related health effects experienced by Westfield residents affected by the contamination of our drinking water. In addition, Dr. Carignan will provide PFAS education to our community members during this project.

Westfield PFAS Community Health Review

At the October 2023 meeting of the Barnes Air National Guard Base's Restoration Advisory Board (RAB), community RAB members approved an application for a grant for Technical Assistance for Public Participation (or TAPP grant) to for trusted local experts, to review and report back on historical community health data that could potentially relate to our PFAS exposure from the drinking water contaminated from fire training activities and other discharges at the Base.

At the July 2024 RAB meeting TAPP grant had been awarded and contracting was proceeding, albeit more slowly than previously anticipated. At the RAB meeting held on Thursday, October, 2024, DoD RAB colleagues shared that the TAPP contract had been awarded to a DoD contractor named Chloeta (www.chloeta.com), and we were told that we can anticipate a report and presentation at the April 2025 RAB meeting.

When we know more, we will share it with you.
